It’s a thrilling and close encounter at Brookvale Oval with a level playing field on each side for the whole time.
While both teams get to share a point, it’s time to reward the three best players out of both sides combined in Week 2 of Super Rugby AU.
Regardless of which side you’re rooting for, whether it’s the Reds or Rebels in this competition, let’s find out.
First up, it’s Matt Toomua.
His kicks between the sticks mostly via penalty goals, where he safeguarded the Rebels lead towards the break.
Beyond that, he has demonstrated his captaincy and playmaking skills with the short ball like he helped out Reece Hodge explode that finish there on the right-wing for the Rebels’ first touch down of the night.
He may be disappointed not to see the Rebels leave Brookvale Oval with a win.
But his all-round abilities in the No.10 shirt shows that he can be a crucial player in this team in weeks to come.
Next up, Harry Wilson.
He helped strengthen the scrummaging and set up attacking play, which helped his Reds team win a few penalties.
Not only Wilson can help out & form blocks defensively.
But at times, he can be a fantastic force in the final third, including his running as long as there’s support from his backline troops.
So since he’s one of the hard workers in this Queensland squad, he gets to make this list tonight.
And lastly, Reece Hodge.
Having hailed from Manly himself, he gets to show his hometown what he has got to offer.
When he came in as a substitute, the Rebels became a very different team compared to an up & down run in the first 40.
His contribution helped the Rebels find some space so that Reece can have that desire in the final third.
And that worked successfully when the Rebels spread their wings on the right and put them back in the game.
Beyond that, his tireless running scared some of the Reds’ forward pack where his team-mate, Billy Meakes, also scored a try himself based on the tips and tricks from Hodge himself.
Without him, the game would’ve easily handed to the Reds’ way.
So congratulations to these three players who made tonight’s best performers list out of both teams combined.
