2020 Suncorp Super Netball, Round 5: Queensland Firebirds v NSW Swifts Game Debrief

by Sports Benches

It is nice to see both the Queensland Firebirds and NSW Swifts shoot for points and some impressive work in the defense.

But both teams share the lead 16-16 apiece after the first quarter.

In the 2nd quarter, the Swifts began to pull off the scoreboard lead & kept things simple while the Firebirds need to up their finishing.

The Firebirds finishing attempts in the final third deflected to the Swifts, which capitalized on their mistakes.

And that made the Queensland-based side hard to block the Swifts’ successful requests into the net going into half-time.

HALF-TIME: Firebirds 26-34 Swifts

The Firebirds momentum returned as it was during Stage 1 as they close in the Swifts’ lead by five points with nine to go in the 3rd quarter.

But the game still isn’t over yet despite both fantastic performances from each half.

Helen Housby’s late advantage with the two-point immunities for the Swifts has put them in front by five points (48-43).

In the end, Housby’s masterclass helped the Swifts pull off the win by seven points.

For the Firebirds, the goals are still there, but the ill-discipline and struggles in the backline could not catch up.

FULL-TIME: Firebirds 57-64 Swifts
