India resumed 233-6 from the first day of Test 1. It took 25 minutes for Australia to wrap in their first innings total. Pat Cummins first captured Ravi Ashwin (15).
Then Mitchell Starc completes the rest of the India tail order. Wriddi Saha reached the ball & edged it to Tim Paine. Umesh Yadav may have scored a solitary six.
But that cameo quickly ended with an edge up high. And Matthew Wade took this catch. Mitch ended India’s spell on 244 when Mohammed Shami flicked it high early to Travis Head at square leg.
Australia takes over the batting while India gets to field/bowl. The home team did not get the start they wanted. Matty Wade hesitated with the shot going leg side. Joe Burns also suffered the same thing. But it hit his pad first before the bat. So Jasprit Bumrah spotted very well with 2 LBWs.
That puts Australia at 35/2 going into the dinner break. They hoped to recharge their batteries by then. Then Australia became a victim of spin. Thanks to Ravi Ashwin. Steve Smith made no effort apart from an edge on one. Travis Head thought that he whacked it. But done it early with no movement for Ravi to take the catch.
Enter debutant all-rounder Cameron Green at six. He is a mix of between Freddie Flintoff & Ben Stokes. But lasted short on 11 despite a promising start. Cam did not give much room to whack mid-wicket and Virat Kohli took a one handed catch. That makes up 3 scalps for Ravi.
His successful demolition for most of the Australia Top 6 did not catch Marnus. He is the only person out there at 3. The safe shots are there to get towards the 40s mark. He also capitalize their missed catches. It is how he pushed Australia to 92/5 by the tea break with Tim Paine.
But Marnus hesitated going square with the LBW from Umesh Yadav. That is when Umesh followed what Mitch did. And he began to tap off their tail end. Umesh first got Pat Cummins with the short ball up high off his bat. And landed straight to Ajinkya Rahane at point for a duck.
Ravi returned to see the run out from Mitch Starc. Thanks to Privthi Shaw. He completed his 4fer off Nathan Lyon flicked straight to Kohli at the silly mid off role.
And Umesh limited Australia to 191 when Josh Hazlewood just scooped a wide ball to Cheteshwar Pujara at slip. The home team trailed by 53 runs when Tim Paine rescued it late. But it is no good at large to see high risk shots with little timing/feet.
It does not translate with the ball from the home team. Pat Cummins cleaned bowled Privthi Shaw for 4. We already covered with Privthi earlier. He does possess talent despite his past injuries. But unable to get off the mark unfortunately. The selectors better reconsider him for the 2nd Test.
Day 2 ended play with India 9/1 and currently leads by 63 runs. India very outstanding with the ball last night. But the batting will be put on the test. The openers under pressure right now. And if they cannot deliver. Then the odds are against them to be on the box seat. And win the 1st Test with 1-0 up in this series.
Australia is also under pressure too based on their poor batting. Mainly from the Top 6 bar Marnus Labuschagne. Marnus is lucky to hold on a bit longer. While Tim Paine batted safe unlike the others. Now the bowlers must cover this mess. Limit India a lead total of 100-150. And they are still alive to win. Got to get ready and arrest the India top & middle order quick.
