Laver Cup 2021, Matteo Berrettini goes from the first down to an unbelievable comeback v Felix Auger-Aliassime for Team Europe

by Sports Benches

What a comeback from Italian Matteo Berrettini who gone from a tight first set down 6-7 (3-7 in the tiebreaker) to holding back Felix Auger-Aliassime (7-5) before he won the tiebreaker & match for Team Europe 10-8 that took nearly three hours.

So close from Team World in Canadian Auger-Aliassime having fired off well but just unable to kick on even though he never gave up at times as they are 0-2 in this year’s series, there’s still lots of work in Day 1 after American Reilly Opelka was easily beaten earlier today by Norweigan Casper Rudd in straight sets (6-3, 7-6 in 7-4 tiebreaker).

Next up is going to be a tough one for Team World when World No.15 Argentine Diego Schwartzman takes on 5th seed from Russia Andrey Rublev before we finish Day 1 tonight with the doubles game (Matteo Berrettini & Alexander Zverev for Europe v John Isner & Denis Shapovalov for World).
