Good start from Rory McIIroy who is your leader at -5 (65 shots) after the first day of the 2022 PGA Championship at Southern Hills Golf Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He had a strong 2nd half run with four straight birdies between holes 12-15 on top of plenty of pars, as well as three birdies & two bogeys from the opening nine holes.

Will Zalatoris is right behind McIIroy’s radar in Tied 2nd alongside fellow American Tom Hoge. Zalatoris looked consistent for the majority at -4 (66 shots), especially when he collected all of his six birdies predominately in Pars 4 & one Par 5 on hole 13.

And although Hoge would’ve love to separate Zalatoris and McIlroy during the 2nd half run with only two birdies, but there’s still ample time to improve tomorrow on Day 2 when a great start and a consistent string of pars ties Hoge with Zalatoris.

The trio of Matt Kuchar, Abraham Ancer & Justin Thomas are Tied 4th right now at -3 (67 shots), while a host of players, including Australia’s own Cam Smith & Lucas Herbert, are jostling in and out of a very competitive Top 10-15 field in Tied 7th.

So great start by both Aussies there at this year’s PGA Championship, especially from an outsider like Herbert. He and Smith are hoping to close into the Top 5 tomorrow, depending on other competitors’ results, before they go all in & chase that major if possible by the weekend’s final two rounds.
