Sports News This Week 2 Mar. 2026: Same winners, Vegas rolls the dice

Sports News This Week 2 Mar. 2026: NASCAR Cup Series Texas Grand Prix at Circuit of The Americas with Tyler Reddick's third straight win of the new season.

This sports news weekend saw same dominance by Tyler Reddick in NASCAR and the Aussie Super Rugby teams with particularly ACT Brumbies.

If that’s not enough, we have the NRL season opener from Las Vegas that is hard to ignore both here and on the global stage.

Sports Benches keeps you covered once every week with the best of General Hospital and big event sports. So let’s roll the dice because what happens here stays in Vegas, sports news edition.

NASCAR Cup Series, Round 3/36 at COTA

Round 3 delivered unpredictable road course racing.

Front-row battles stayed quiet while drivers around the mid-Top 10 waited for their moment before the lone yellow reshuffled the field & yet same winner post-race.

It wasn’t an easy road-course win for Tyler Reddick especially when he started on pole during the first half.

But again, the strategy was there with the exact same approach that got his first Daytona 500 win two weeks ago.

Not only that, Tyler’s No.45 Toyota Camry showed up at the right time whose undeniable 2nd half speed was key to his winning formula three in a row.

SVG from Trackhouse in the No.97 Chevy Camaro came so close (2nd) where qualifying could’ve been a bit better to take hold and maintain up front, so he can naturally set up a good final stage & translate into victories.

At least the late yellow restart applied some much needed improvements that’s almost worthy of a race wins following some mid Top 10 stability with his good track position — just not enough on time though.

Unlucky from Ryan Blaney when his strategy for the most clean laps was similar to Reddick & was on course mightily in victory lane contention. It’s a shame the final restart didn’t go his way but he still finished as the top Ford driver in 8th for Penske.

Big Sports Feature: NRL 2026 Opening Round from Las Vegas

It’s the season NRL aka Rugby League hosted their Round 1 showcase in Las Vegas for three straight years now plus two if you count England’s Super League, although no women’s international game this time.

At least three games is enough for fans to fly over & get bums on seats including some locals. That way, the NRL can sell their greatest game to wider Americans at the iconic Allegiant Stadium.

There’s always next year and 2028 with plenty of sightseeing & you get to dress up as Elvis along the way.

Stay tuned though, NRL could fill the whole of 2027’s Round 1 going global.

With the Channel 9 televised game of Bulldogs v Dragons, it was a close one lasting more than 80 plus ten extra time minutes.

Bulldogs win over Dragons by 15-14 courtesy of a Stephen Creighton field goal with 10 seconds left — unreal.

The Dogs were threatening with the way they’ve taken advantage of those run metres, especially using width at short sides.

Dragons kept themselves within arm’s reach but then they were on the back foot following missed opportunities & Bulldogs went on to shut down shop.

Round 1 continues back Down Under resuming Thursday night with Storm v Eels.

Super Rugby Week 3/16: Brumbies v Blues

These Brumbies forward stocks were tough as nails by building pressure, help their backs dominate ball and stack up tries — not to mention some extra bench bodies.

That proved just enough with their 30–27 win over the Blues from 15-15 at the break as Aussie teams dominated Week 3.

Western Force def. Moana Pasifika (18-35) with Perth’s first win this year and so did the Reds v Highlanders (31-14), particularly when the returning Harry Wilson gave Queensland some much needed relief.

Sports News This Week 2 Mar. 2026: Super Rugby Week 3 with ACT Brumbies v Blues.

Luke Reimer, despite signing up with the Waratahs next year, was a breath of fresh air at the breakdown by capitalising on the Blues’ ill-discipline that late.

Yes competition is important but Brumbies know they can trust him when others needed a hard-earned rest.

Also, their match-winning TRY scorer Charlie Cale (Number 8) proved to be everywhere once again like last weekend v Crusaders.

He’s worthy of contributing points while he held Blues up in defense at bay.

Caleb Clarke, meanwhile, kept himself active with the two tries off intercepts & contestable kicks demonstrating tremendous speed for the Blues on the left 11. But the only red flag came from their ill-discipline including their inability to finish games, especially down with 14 men where Brumbies pinned Blues over scraps.
