The famed All My Children revival pitch has taken another turn this time in the form of a TV movie series that goes from holidays to Christmas themed storylines, having last heard a few years ago when they tried making it into prime-time called Pine Valley. The plot for Pine Valley was about a young journalist coming into town who kept a close eye on family feud with a secret middle ground between the Kane and Santos families that could impact this community.

However, that route was quietly rejected at all without any consideration of a pilot presentation and even a series order past the initial development phase by ABC – especially when they got so many other new scripted shows to consider like High Potential which will finally start next week following the 2023 Hollywood TV Strikes.

Yeah, that was a bit of a no surprise there when it took so long to find out which was disappointing. But even though if Pine Valley did go into pilot, it wouldn’t have worked out anyway considering how the TV business works. Also, it would’ve been a waste of time with the people coming back onboard for that one occasion & then the pilot fails where we may have never possibly seen it on the air, with most failed TV pilots locked up in an undisclosed warehouse storage vault.

Fortunately, ABC’s parent company Disney transferred this AMC revival pitch to one of their cable TV movie channels at Lifetime, who is part of the Disney family when they are currently owned by A & E Networks.

Yes, we still don’t know for sure as this AMC revival has barely made it past the first step so far before they can go get approved for production. But what we do know is that the fictional setting will always be situated in Pine Valley in Pennsylvania as it remains to be seen which characters from the original soap we shall see should this be approved.

So far there’s no writer & producers onboard when this is no longer Pine Valley the prime time pitch but hoping Kelly Ripa & Mark Consuelos can come back once again at least behind the scenes with a bit of on-air cameo since they run a syndicated daytime talk show together called Live with Kelly and Mark!

I also know some soap fans aren’t happy with Cameron Mathison currently playing Drew Cain on General Hospital in recent years who was a big part of AMC a long time ago as Ryan Lavery, but I guess his yearly TV movie commitments is currently tied up with the Great American Family channel for now.

One can hope an AMC revival is coming closer towards the airwaves sooner rather than later albeit on cable TV/streaming with the franchise rights currently under ABC/Disney’s hands once again off Prospect Park since 2016. Let’s hope they can see light at the end of the day since soaps and TV movies have a great connection there when it comes to actors/actresses, etc.

The Drew Barrymore Show has just been renewed for season six that will last at least the summer of 2026 by CBS today as season five will begin in two weeks time from now while you can watch her syndicated daytime talk show in the meantime on Network 10 & 10Play on-demand in Australia. Not surprising indeed since she’s so successful bringing her talents from acting to show business and now a talk show host when her own Drew show first began back in September 2020.

Although Drew did address about her interviewing style today in the way she interviews people up close where she got some criticism as being awkward, but sure she will look to practice physical distance as this is something that is unique or her own rather than copying off one from someone else like Wendy Williams & Sherri Shepherd & the other likes of Daytime TV.

How will her talk show fit in when the upcoming CBS Mornings third hour show is expected to begin late next month? First of all, her show is syndicated under CBS’s control where some will be on CBS owned & operated local TV stations while the rest that isn’t CBS owned & operated local stations can be picked up elsewhere. With that being said, the show airs back-to-back in half-hour weekday episodes as they can either air back-to-back or split the two episodes throughout the day.

As it stands, some CBS owned local markets who don’t air Drew will most likely get the third-hour Mornings show including some other CBS affiliate local TV stations if they choose to do so. Now if you live an area where you can’t watch the third-hour show on TV while Drew is on, then there’s always the CBS News 24/7 streaming channel online. Not sure if the third-hour program will be live Internationally or be delayed throughout the day like NBC and ABC does with their own 3rd hour shows.

So there you have it, Drew is not going anywhere for another 1-2 years for now – even when CBS Mornings third-hour is set to arrive soon and they got a ton of other Daytime shows to air throughout the day.

Didn’t know Gina Rodriguez is getting yet another ABC gig off the back of her time with the Not Dead Yet sitcom as Nellie which was recently axed over the summer after two seasons. First of all post-NDY, she was the co-host of the brand new Lucky 13 game show alongside Shaquille O’Neal that began last month.

Now she will be a regular in season 3 of the hit Will Trent drama ahead of its mid-season launch in around January-February that is also on the same network and the same 20th Television production.

She will be playing an Assistant District Attorney lawyer, who is new to Atlanta & may be forced to work with Will to solve gang crimes within the area, named Marion Alba. Interesting to see if he will stick with Angie (Erika Christensen) or go with Marion? We shall see in the new year as Gina will be there for some time in Atlanta just like Erika whom they are both both based in the West Coast over in LA.

Looks like she and Disney are going onto another level now and good for her getting more screen time on ABC both as actress and TV show host. Yeah, life won’t be the same for NDY when they had a great following as it would be great if this would’ve been kept elsewhere even on Hulu. Unfortunately, continuous poor ratings is not something ABC wanted to keep at the end of the day & therefore, they decided to end NDY after season 2.

But life with Gina goes on ABC with more Lucky 13 where they’ll have back-to-back episodes next week.

At last but not least, a CBS Mornings 3rd hour program will finally make it on the air by the end of next month when NBC’s Today has been doing this for a long time while ABC’s Good Morning America also had success with their own third hour show but at lunchtime (1pm) for several years now when they first replaced The Chew (a daytime cooking show) back in mid-2018.

This won’t affect CBS Daytime plans regarding their new African-American focused soap opera called The Gates who will still replace the soon-to-be-defunct The Talk show at 2pm weekdays, with their first episode beginning in January 2025 and it will go for an hour of each episode.

Who will be the hosts for that new CBS Mornings 3rd hour show? It’s expected to be one of the CBS Mornings’ main host Tony Dokoupil and Adriana Diaz. We thought Dokoupil would replace the departing Norah O’Donnell for the Evening News job once the US Election is over this November but it looks like CBS will be doing things completely different where they will get a team of anchors onboard from across New York and Washington DC rather than for a like-for-like replacement for Norah. For example, John Dickerson and Maurice DuBois will be co-hosting from New York with Lonnie Quinn providing weather contributions with Face The Nation’s Margaret Brennan playing a key role to Dickerson & DuBois from the nation’s capitol.

So a bit like employing three-person host strategy again from CBS Mornings but on evenings that will last 30 mins between 6.30-7pm as maybe they want to step back when it comes to the added costs of someone fronting the news with Norah wanting to take on a new challenge after a long-time hosting CBS’s Morning and Evening News programs rather than making more original reporting that is worthwhile to viewers nationwide & they would want to go with the latter option.

Also, what would the hour-long CBS Morning 3rd hour show look like? We don’t know for sure but expecting it will just be a quick recap of the news from overnight as if someone’s waking up that late & missing out the main show while adding a bit of a less serious feel from the main “hard news” one as if they’re replacing The Talk whose status is set to end this December.

And where we could tune in? It will be on CBS’s 24/7 News streaming channel which is free-to-view online straight after the two-hour CBS mornings block between 9-10am as well as on selected CBS-owned local TV stations & affiliates.

So it looks like for those CBS affiliate stations that isn’t owned by CBS, you can only view it online to begin with but you never know as it progresses over time like 6-12 months when you got Drew Barrymore’s show and other CBS Daytime programs to tune in throughout the day. I would suggest maybe the first 30 mins of the third-hour can be on CBS and the other 30 mins would be go to all of online and some CBS-owned local stations just like NBC does with their midday news bulletin called NBC News Daily where the main channel gets one hour at 12pm & if their viewers wish to watch the rest, then they can go online between 1 to 4pm. But that will be a long-term thing for CBS to sort out going into early next year for the 2025/26 TV season.

So there you have it, it’s been a long time coming for a CBS third hour morning show to make into air when they first looked at this back in 2012 under Gayle King with a medical-focused program called On Call & didn’t make it past the development stage. But glad it’s happening though as things will get a lot busier in the lead up to the election and the new year in 2025.

So there we have it, ABC’s mid-season comedy line-up is all set with three rather than four shows going into early 2025.

Abbott Elementary continues yet another full season (Currently on Season 4) at the halfway mark while The Conners’ 7th and final season begins at the same time with six episodes to go, and now Tim Allen’s Shifting Gears joins the party as the next new sitcom for ABC since the recently axed Not Dead Yet back in early 2023. In case you missed it, its about Tim’s persona Matt going through a personal restoration of his own on top of his successful restoration car business when his teenage daughter moves in alongside her teenage kids following her divorce on what is going to be a long ride together from here.

That means, Ty Burrell’s Shifting Gears pilot unfortunately didn’t make it into the network’s plans – so no series order from them. Thought they would be up there after a year of in-development alongside someone who is well known for Modern Family before being given a pilot order a few months ago.

But then things began to go downhill I’m afraid when it comes to the pilot presentation after management got the chance to watch this for an assessment.

Although some of the bits and pieces were not bad including some crucial tweaks, such as the re-cast of Hank’s son in a bid to appease management. But again, the plot when being added on a video tape copy just couldn’t quite translate what the network wants to offer to their audience for TV.

It would’ve been great if a sitcom like this be on any one of the TV networks out there to tackle dementia in a positive way had this gone into a series for mid-season.

At the end of the day, it’s ABC’s decision – who doesn’t sound confident on showing a sitcom that would potentially upset some of the audience – about someone having dementia & wanting to make memories while he can that affects the elderly.

Especially when Forgive and Forget was filmed in front of a studio audience which is something the network wants to do to cut costs going forward. Probably another reason why Burrell’s project didn’t do well when his Modern Family success was via single-camera. Maybe ABC would’ve gave them another chance there instead in a different format, but then they’re less reliant on single-camera comedies & more into drama and reality/unscripted as said with their $$$.

To those who had the chance to watch the pilot, glad you saw it whereas the TV audience may not be able to ever since it’s going to be archived in a warehouse vault. But you never know what’s going to happen since these failed pilot lifelines being picked up by other networks are very rare as 20th Television is not forgiving and forgetting this one just yet.

And on Shifting Gears, we all know having this star power cast alongside a killer script/plot for Tim Allen’s next TV gig was easy enough for ABC to bring them in following their pilot presentation last month. Sure, it’s almost like a straight-to-series as always where their selection process is based on quality than quantity – see High Potential as a reference from early last year based on the hit French police dramedy, while they also had some off-set changes lately likewise with Burrell’s latest pilot.

But this is a project that’s still highly well regarded just to make sure all systems can go for the network to begin foster a good relationship with the viewers via Allen once again like it was in the past when you look back at Home Improvement and later Last Man Standing.

What will look like as said with their 2025 mid-season schedule, mainly on Wednesdays, is maybe they’ll start with 60-90 mins on reality from 8pm followed by 90 mins of comedy and maybe another half-hour from elsewhere.

That’s the plan going forward as keep an eye out on Shifting Gears over the next few months such as the key art, logo, pictures and the first look promo before they will finally make it on the air early next year. For now, congratulations to Allen with the call-up once again as we look forward to see him return to the Disney family on ABC & 20th Television soon enough.

Note: The Shifting Gears logo above was maybe via a pilot presentation screenshot on IMDB as this may not be the official one being implemented by ABC but we’ll see.

USA’s version of the HPI TV show High Potential not only has a premiere date earlier this week of Tuesday September 17th at 10pm right after the new season of Dancing With The Stars with more to come weekly across several Tuesdays, but Kaitlin Olson fans (whose actress will lead the show as Morgan Gillery in the same way as Morgane Alvaro in France) and ABC viewers can watch the original HPI show from France right now on-demand via Hulu that was dropped off earlier today for those wondering what High Potential will look like when they will finally arrive on TV later this year due to last year’s labour strikes.

Yes, the original show from France would be probably up to their 4th season by now with the first three seasons being made available to US viewers at this stage as we don’t know how High Potential will turn out on the big ABC. Gotta credit to management though for discovering this show that was hit in France’s TF1 where they want HPI to give themselves a try in America and the ABC management loved it as soon as they saw the idea that followed up with a pilot copy under a star behind the scenes staff under Drew Goddard before it was approved as a series originally for the Fall cycle earlier last year.

In case you don’t know it which is similar to the US plot, it’s just Morgane while she was cleaning at a police station, she discovered she has a knack of solving crimes with an outstanding IQ of 160 – despite being divorced twice with three kids & has run-ins with police along the way when Morgane agreed to work with the station as a consultant. The characters there will have some similarities on what we will see for High Potential very soon – such as Morgane Alvaro (Morgan), Adam Karadec (Just Karadec, don’t know why), Daphne and Elliott (one of Morgan’s three kids but slightly renamed under Elliot with one T).

I just saw the original promo video of HPI from France’s TF1 and yes, I can see the exact same thing what Morgan does in both versions when they were both dancing and cleaning and then got into the habit of solving crimes once a unsolved crime folder was accidentally knocked down the ground that the Police couldn’t do while at dark all done by herself.

You can see how this goes for yourself on Hulu for those living in the USA here as well as Amazon Prime Video in Australia here as High Potential will be on ABC with Hulu on-demand the next day as well as on Disney + Internationally.

We thought there was a house on fire the other day ahead of the big July 4 US public holiday when AMPDavis purposely burned down the room where Kai Cenat was streaming to his viewers in front of a desktop on twitch that was full of fireworks along with other Mr.Beast stuff worth so much money before they ran out to the caravan just in time for the downfall but hey it was staged after all where they’ve built a fake room together that lasted for a month at an undisclosed green field location.

Glad they’re okay though since it was simply acting and fake as don’t try this at home which will have massive consequences if you do this such as burning it down with fireworks before you might hurt yourself if you’re lucky and then you will have a tough time when it comes to insurance or even no insurance. Also shout out to Mr Beast who was there for Kai and Davis for the stunt having stopped by in Sydney here last week & he too has all the money in the world like in the billions of dollars to turn up for a bit to showcase his brand or make content there before he go back home comfortably on a private plane.

He’s the one who loves to give out some money and his prizes whenever he likes at any time to his fans such as that luxury car giveaway to several lucky Aussies whom he randomly selected when many of Mr Beast’s fans brought one of his chocolate “Beastable” products at their local supermarket stores for a limited time by scanning the QR code in order to be in for a draw online. If you want to know who he is, make sure you tune into his YouTube Channel and Instagram while Kai Cenat also has a huge following just like Mr Beast where he has a few million followers across his social media including his live Twitch streams.

While both current ABC comedy pilots may have finished filming their respective pilot presentations in front of a studio audience over the last week or two, there’s some key concept art for the opening sequence/intro finally being shown into the world of IMDB a day or two ago for one of ABC’s failed drama pilots from early last year called Judgement. It was a legal drama being made by Joey Falco who ran the reboot of Charmed from 2018 with actress Sarah Shahi as the main cast leader of this project in the form of her character Mia Bahari. You can tell by the title sequence of Sarah wondering with her eyes wide open on top of backdrops through the town of Washington DC (fictional setting there as the pilot was filmed in Atlanta, Georgia) as well as a series of wording such as “In the Supreme Court of the United States” & “United States Court of America” before you can finally see such a killer logo towards the end there in the wording called Judgement. That’s all to tell by its cover as the full pilot show access is only limited to cast members and behind the scenes staff involved unfortunately, not even going to a certain studio building would help to watch this pilot in-person either unless you’re really lucky. It’s only appropriate when showing off a piece of work like a part of your resume/CV as if you continue to seek your next opportunity.

It would’ve been a great promo for the public to see as if Judgement did make it into a series order but then the writers and later actors’ strikes have delayed pretty much everything for most of last year from April to October-November. Even if there wasn’t any revolt from people working behind the scenes in the scripted TV business, Judgement wouldn’t be given an advantage anyway when trying to get ahead of others like The Good Lawyer (also eventually being overlooked because the Strikes held them up for far too long). Yes, I understand about the split timelines part but then it’s 100% just about Mia whose professional reputation was on the line after being nominated for a seat in the Supreme Court off the back of her poor personal and love life other than what she did 15 years ago (was last year in fictional terms to its present day 2038).

So having an excellent line-up of cast members featuring team leader Shahi wasn’t bad alongside the key production art where the ABC management gave them some good grades which was largely well received, it’s just the plot when applying it in a pilot presentation from a year-long development script and its planned storyboards was something they didn’t like and therefore, Judgement didn’t make it at the end of the day. Although Judgement was given the chance to being given a lifeline by other networks following its original rejection by ABC but then these lifelines very rarely succeed unlike this one here. It’s not easy to make TV by first writing your story idea via a script, work with them for a year to make changes in the hope of making this script suitable for TV if you’re lucky, then assemble a cast and a location to film for a certain period of time hoping for the best by sending a copy back upstairs before you can finally go all in for the big screen if accepted – that’s life for y’all.

The good news is that the so-called “Pilot Season” most likely a thing of the past where it’s a bit like a knockout contest during February-March ahead of its final selections for the networks to showcase its annual May upfronts but it seems filming pilots where some go and some being eliminated and then archived in a vault or even all go and all not go isn’t changing anytime soon for now except FOX who nearly relies on straight-to-series orders off development scripts. I guess networks would want to double check everything first depending on axed shows and how these pilots would best fit their audience if they do make it as this kind of method have worked best for them across Fall and Mid-Season cycles in recent years.

Other than that, you never know when you will be able to watch an episode of Judgement one day if you’re lucky but 99.9% impossible. Judgement was produced by 20th Television alongside its Disney subsidiary studio ABC Signature and The Detective Agency as you can see it for yourself online at anytime on the pilot’s IMDB page here. And if you’re a huge fan of watching past pilots that never made into TV, I recommend you follow The Media Garage on both YouTube and Patreon. The same goes with JQ’s YouTube Channel here where they had tons of closing credit clips from various unaired TV pilots.

NBC Sports may have lost the IndyCar rights to FOX Sports last week ahead of next season under the series’ new multi-year TV rights cycle, but they did successfully retain the IMSA SportsCar Championship rights however for another few years. Nothing much will change other than the fact there will be up to 17 hours of screen time on the free-to-air NBC channel per year (50% up from what we see right now) with the rest including its support categories and on-demand content being on Peacock.

So it looks like most of the races including the 2 hour and 45 minutes ones and key portions of the long-distance endurance races – such as the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona, 12 Hours of Sebring, 6 Hours at Watkins Glen and 8-Hour Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta will all be happening on NBC. Although nothing is guaranteed like FOX promised to IndyCar when they will have all races live free-to-air from next year while NBC wanted to keep the IndyCar rights by having nearly all races for free & only a handful ending up elsewhere in which the series said no, there’s still a possibility that we could see just a handful Premier Class races going behind a paywall on Peacock and maybe on cable via USA Network like we see with IndyCar at the moment.

Speaking of IMSA on cable, they still should get some air time with some of long-distance endurance races as above but no word at this stage as to whether or not if the taped support race encores/highlights will continue during the following weekend of each round, etc – especially for viewers who is still around as some have already cut the cord in recent years for streaming. They used to do it quite frequently when NBCSN was there a few years back before it was shut down two years ago & the network barely shows motorsport encore/highlights these days with USA Network & CNBC already have their own time filler like USA’s endless marathons of second-run syndicated dramas as well as CNBC’s daily financial/business coverage.

And lastly who will still be around for NBC’s IMSA coverage? Leigh Diffey is one of them who has been around sportscars for a long time and will be back to commentate the early rounds of next season including the 24 Hours of Daytona but is expected to be given the reigns though as the network’s leading NASCAR Cup Series announcer during the second half season. Yes, they haven’t made the announcement yet as official but still likely to happen after the Olympics in September with Rick Allen to fully focus on Xfinity when the CW gets the early Playoff access and for Diffey to come in at the right time during Cup day.

When Leigh is on other commitments, Dave Burns has been filling in every now and then including Brian Till who is also an analyst having competed in CART back in the early 90s. Calvin Fish has always been a mainstay as the leading sports car analyst also for a long time as no doubt he and Leigh will continue their long-running partnership together for another few years. It remains to be seen though if Townsend Bell and James Hinchcliffe will stick around where both of them have always been around in IndyCar but it looks like they will both likely move on considering Hinch has also done some Formula 1 work from time to time & Townsend barely appeared on the network beyond IndyCar. Then on pit road, there’s no doubt Matt Yocum will be there for the most part including some from NASCAR on an occasional basis like Dillon Welch and Marty Snider.

All in all, it wasn’t a difficult deal for NBC to renew their commitment with IMSA when the US sports car series is also run by NASCAR. You could tell they could get the World Endurance Championship rights that includes the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans race but it seems TNT Sports via Warner Bros Discovery has kept them in great hands for the time being, especially when they use their sister Eurosport English-language commentary feed from Europe for every round on Motor Trend.

If IMSA did move to TNT, they would be the whole home of sports car racing but then it wouldn’t go down well when it comes to the overall reach with no free-to-air presence while the series has so many different manufacturers in the books & there’s no way IMSA would want to accept that. For now, NBC still has the 2nd half NASCAR Cup races, IMSA & dirt bike racing.

So two of the ABC half-hour comedy pilots of 2024 is now up to the pilot filming stage recently with Shifting Gears already had their presentation over the past week which will be seen by management while Forgive and Forget has just begun doing it on their own before following the same process. As we all know, Shifting Gears is all about a father (Tim Allen) who run a successful classic car restoration business but needs time to try and re-connect with his long lost daughter who just moved into his house alongside her teenage kids. Forgive and Forget, on the other hand, has something to do with Hank (Ty Burrell) wanting to re-connect these memories with his son Ben while he can after he was unexpectedly diagnosed with dementia.

Yes, the decisions is still not yet been finalised but they’re getting there with first-look trailers and official photos expected to come out in 1-2 months ahead of an expected airdate going into the mid-season cycle in either January or February 2025. That’s where ABC will be able to bring it home with their Wednesday sitcom line-up where another top season of Abbott Elementary goes on as well as the last six episodes of Season 7 in The Conners before their end of era and maybe 1-2 new sitcoms coming in with both Shifting Gears and Forgive and Forget – should the executives be happy to give the green light.

According to today’s update from Deadline by Nellie Andreeva, it looks like both new sitcoms will certainly be going ahead into a series order this time around. Here are the reasons why:

  • Both sitcoms are in a multi-camera format that is cheaper for the network to produce as part of their plans going forward;
  • Both sitcoms have star names in their respective pilots such as Tim Allen (Home Improvement, Last Man Standing, Toy Story and The Santa Clause) and Kat Dennings (2 Broke Girls) for Shifting Gears as well as Ty Burrell (Modern Family) in Forgive and Forget;
  • Both sitcoms’ plots/scripts for the next prime-time cycle went well that is so fitting for ABC to roll both of them out going into the new year in place of Home Economics and Not Dead Yet whose shows have already been axed.

Yes, having both sitcoms going forward almost feels like a straight-to-series order but at least the network is taking their time that bests fit their audience on the the big ABC on TV and Hulu across on-demand/online thanks to their year-round development process when the traditional “Pilot Season” may be a thing of the past. So no more quick decisions as if it’s an elimination contest where they typically pick a couple for pilot, send back for the executives upstairs for an assessment and then some will get the chance while others be thrown out and have their copy being archived in a top-secret vault storage.

I also had a look of Shifting Gears’ IMDB profile page today and they too now got their intro title card off the back of their recent pilot taping as this might not be the show’s official logo if they were given a series order but you never know. Watch this space as ABC is very certain to welcome two new sitcoms onboard (and both also under the subsidiary 20th Television umbrella) featuring two veterans of Tim Allen and Ty Burrell any minute from now over the next few weeks to months.

UPDATE 29/6/24: I also just saw the logo now of Forgive and Forget via Diana Maria Riva’s instagram page from a few days ago who plays one of the characters there (Hank’s ex-wife and shares an adult son together with Ben) on the other ABC comedy pilot. Likewise with Shifting Gears, they both come in a multi-camera format that has a studio audience/laughing track in it as part of the network’s plans to make these scripted sitcoms more affordable going forward. With that being said and as long as the pilot presentation goes well based on the script plot and its acting performance, this one will most certainly join Shifting Gears as one of ABC’s two brand new comedy shows during the mid-season mark in around January/February 2025.
