It’s been a while since the NSW Waratahs played on home soil at Allianz Stadium, as they welcome the only undefeated Super Rugby side right now in the Chiefs from Waikato, NZ. The first half has been quiet at 7-7 apiece with Bryn Gatland opening the scoreboard for the Chiefs before Jake Gordon replied to their TRY scoring account with one of his own via an amazing intercept for the Waratahs.
Later on, Chiefs began to put the foot on the gas before they left Sydney as still unbeaten thanks to a series of conversion kicks from full-back Damian McKenzie, as well as back-to-back tries from Emoni Narawa. And the Tahs might have found the score zone once more, but then they couldn’t find a way to arrest them on what has been another winless night in front of their home supporters. The final score here in Moore Park is Tahs 14-24 Chiefs.
It’s been a rough start so far with a win yet to happen at the brand new Allianz Stadium for the Tahs. Injuries hit them hard after five rounds of play with another tough encounter ahead v Brumbies in Canberra on next Saturday night for R6.
And the only undefeated side still standing following the Brumbies loss to the Crusaders earlier tonight is the boys from Waikato aka The Chiefs. They too got ahead first on the scoreboard, even though the first 40 was quiet thanks to Jake Gordon’s payback and Damian McKenzie missing the sticks on his 2nd penalty goal attempt. However, the Chiefs made a huge difference in the 2nd half with the attack when speedster Emoni Narawa got away with two tries on the wide-right, while they took advantage of the Tahs disciplinary mistakes. Now that is enough to sum up the Chiefs brilliant finish to the game, as it remains to be seen if they can keep on winning with the Blues next up (home) on next Saturday night.
