Great start from Alexander Zverev who got himself ahead with the first set win, having claimed easy games while Karen Khachanov struggled so far even though the Russian fought hard as of late.
Zverev continued to lead unbeaten after the break with plenty of consecutive games earned before he was too good for Khachanov in straight sets that earned him the gold medal for Team Germany.
The last time a German played a men’s singles final was Tommy Haas back in 2000 where he won the silver medal behind Yevgeny Kafelnikov, and Zverev today made this incredible breakthrough for his country after a semi-final comeback v Novak Djokovic.
Final Score: 6-3, 6-1 both to Alexander Zverev.
Khachanov may have tried his best to hold the German back, especially during a couple of break points that would’ve at least gave him some reprieve but his lack of execution & slow starts ultimately saw The Russian settle for silver.
That’s it for Tennis in the Olympic scene and there is one more grand slam left of 2021 which is the US Open that begins at the end of this month.

Great opening half battle from both Pablo Carreno Busta and Karen Khachanov but it’s the Russian in Khachanov who won the first set while Carreno Busta began to fell behind with the loss of momentum there.
And nothing much has changed from Carreno Busta when he couldn’t reprise the same form that fired off from the beginning, even though the Spaniard reaped some consolation points which is too late to hold Khachanov back in straight sets.
The final score is 6-3, 6-3 as Karen Khachanov advances through to the gold medal match and we’ll see if either Novak Djokovic or Alexander Zverev come home first for the other berth soon.
He’s such a great player to watch who stayed on top of his game, especially with the first half momentum during each set where it gave plenty of patience for Khachanov to execute & harder for Carreno Busta to make up lost time.
For Carreno Busta, he will have a reprieve though in the bronze medal match.

It was a close first set battle from both Karen Khachanov and Ugo Humbert every time they claim a point each that went for so long until the tiebreaker at 6-6, but it’s Khanchanov who closed down Humbert 7-4 in this initial stage to the finish line as the Russian leads 1-0.
Humbert had the early say after the break with the 2nd set win 4-6, even though he fought hard to deny Khachanov a straight sets route that kept his gold medal hopes alive for the semis.
In the end, however, it’s Khachanov who pulled off home ahead of Humbert in the 3rd & final set 6-3.
He will now face against either fellow Russian Daniil Medvedev or Pablo Carreno Busta from Spain in the 2nd semi-final.
For Humbert, he played some great battles that picked up a few points that put the pressure back on Khachanov, but lacks the execution & consistency after his 2nd set mini win.
Final Score: 7-6 (7-4 tiebreaker) to Khachanov, 4-6 to Humber & 6-3 to Khachanov.
