Sports News This Week 12th October 2026: Briscoe v Bell at Charlotte

Sports Benches presents this week’s Sports News where NASCAR returns to Charlotte but back on the oval again with the Fall running after a great last eight years on left & right turns.

What’s also back is the two-match Bledisloe Cup series and we have another Jack Doohan update for you too.

There’s only four editions left on the Sports Benches sporting calendar this year as don’t forget to check out our General Hospital soap fix every Saturday.

NASCAR Cup Series at Charlotte II

What a close finish by the two Joe Gibbs Toyotas but it’s Chase Briscoe who continues to stand out over Christopher Bell running Top 3 consistently all afternoon.

He pushed so hard to stake his claim upfront going off the last restart where Chase stretched his legs while Bell eventually closed in by breathing down his neck that close.

Fortunately, the direction Chase & crew chief James Small wanted to last under green did enough to beat Bell.

Ryan Blaney also had a solid Top 3 performance in the Ford Mustang cohort after a 3rd-placed result with Team Penske. A win would’ve always been lovely but struggled to dislodge these brute Toyota Camrys. Good News though, he has the consistent form and luck to change the state of play like it was back in late 2023, as turns out he won that year’s championship.

Kyle Larson finished 6th as the leading Chevy Camaro for Hendrick whose excellent start didn’t go his way; there’s nothing much he can do outside his control, especially with no practice/qualifying due to rain & also numerous yellows.

As long as Kyle keeps doing well, he’s almost certain to win yet another Cup Title.

Bledisloe Cup I: All Blacks v Wallabies at Eden Park

The first half was a cracking performance by both teams but 2nd half? Same old. All Blacks def, Wallabies so easily as if the final 40 mins became an arm wrestling contest, 50-19.

Let’s start with the Wallabies, what happened? They were right inside the ballpark off their robust defensive shape while attacking more than the ABs did on the counter. The way they struck first and then back left the Aussies with three points shy at HT, 17-14.

Unfortunately, did they think that since Eden Park is a tough place to beat, why not go safety first where New Zealand could finally learn the hard way?

Well, that’s not the case.

The Men In Black kept on churning with dominant possession before they found the in-goal several times than anticipated whose best form of defense is attack whereas the Wallabies wish they’d stuck playing with that brand of Rugby.

ABs had a tough road lately v South Africa’s Springboks with just the opening-game win compared to their last three including the neutral 4th match in Maryland.

Having run riot towards the end, they gotta keep themselves focused on top of free-flowing tactics & managing players right where we’ve seen with 1-2 players already down.

So anything that goes straight to their treatment room could aid the Wallabies next Saturday at Accor Stadium.

Jack Doohan Update No.5

After dad Mick waved the checkered flag last weekend at the rescheduled Bahrain race in Sepang, F1 has just stopped by in Sinagpore but we turn our attention back to Jack Doohan on Sports Benches.

Sports News This Week 21st September 2026: Jack Doohan back in an F1 car during the TPC test in Jerez for Haas

He’s still assessed by Haas whether or not if he’ll be their driver next year following significant progress since February from occasionally present to driving an F1 car again via the TPC.

Now there’s some encouraging signs despite limited financial support that Oakberry, M-Experiment and Moser Watches could reportedly come over to support Jack commercially if successful where that shouldn’t decide the seat alone.

Still hoping he does get the seat where he can be set up for success including the opportunity to improve his crucial Sundays that can go a long way otherwise there’s WEC Hypercar without saying the F1 dream is done for good.

This is about a meaningful journey who pursues a career in four wheels on his own than Mick’s decorated MotoGP accolades as if you don’t like him, that’s fine.

Just don’t please leave negative comments here for reasons that don’t impress you, the end.
